HOW TO SUPPORT US

2010 is off with a big bang! Odaiko New England has already visited 20 Massachusetts K-12 schools through our Young Audiences of Massachusetts partnership—-doubling the number of schools we visited this time last year!  We have also seen an increase in performance requests from organizations all over New England as we continue our schedule of weekly rehearsals, classes and workshops. All of this activity is very exciting. But it does mean that our drums are taking a beating (if you will pardon the expression)!

Our wonderful members, staff and volunteers built many of the drums we use. They know first-hand what a wonderful feeling it is to watch the pieces-—a wine cask, an animal hide, and a box of taiko tacks or rope--become a beautiful taiko drum.

The increased activity we have experienced this year is beginning to show, however. Our drums transform us with the beautiful rhythms we love and now we need to transform our drums!

One box of taiko tacks costs $200. In order to re-head just three of our beloved drums, we use a full box of taiko tacks to secure the drum head to the body.  Likewise, ONE has expenses for everything from costumes to travel to running the Dojo. In all, it costs $450 a day to run Odaiko New England!

Support from our donors gives ONE the resources we need to keep sharing our love of taiko with you and the rest of New England.  We hope you will consider making a gift during this springtime season of renewal.

• $50 will cover the cost of one happi costume or printer toner for 6 months;
• $60 will buy a pair of good Odaiko bachi;
• $100 will pay for one pair of chappa hand cymbals or one month of phone and Internet for our office;
• $200 will buy one box of taiko tacks;

• $5,000 will enable ONE to buy our own Odaiko!
