Recent Happenings with Odaiko New EnglandManjiro FestivalOctober 3, 2009Through pouring rain and less than 12 hours after Pangaea at URI, Odaiko New England gave two performances at the Manjiro Festival in Fairhaven, MA, hometown of ONE Artistic Director Mark H Rooney who, in fact, was first exposed to and inspired to learn taiko at this very festival!
Pangaea: The University of Rhode Island Roots Music SeriesOctober 2, 2009Odaiko New England presented a full length concert based on our 15th Anniversary concert reVISION. After the concert, Michael Lapointe, organizer of the URI Roots Music Series, sent ONE this note: Odaiko New England's performance ... was a perfect punctuation mark to a full week of Diversity celebration and dialogue on the URI campus. Allston Village Street FairSeptember 20, 2009Odaiko New England played at the Allston Village Street Fair. Read Dave Buerger's blog article about his experience at the Fair. North American Taiko Conference 2009August 6-9, 2009Odaiko New England stormed Taiko Conference with eleven members attending - Karen Young, Mark H Rooney, Kristen Koyama, Dave Buerger, Diane Sweet, Calista Tait, Joy Nicholson, Matt Passel, Beth Lowe, Tanya Downer, and Greg Richards. We performed Shin-en in the Taiko Ten concert on Saturday night. Thanks to Carrie Carter of All Things Taiko for sharing this video of Odaiko New England's performance and to www.scruffyfims.net for also sharing a video of our performance. And, as if that's not enough, Joy, Beth, and Tanya participated in the Summer Taiko Institute for the three days leading up to the conference, as well as peforming in Kris Bergstrom's creation: the Taiko March.
