CLASSES

Odaiko New England is proud to offer taiko classes to New England. Our students come from all over the greater Boston metro area, Massachusetts and even from New Hampshire and other New England states.

If you have questions on how to get to and from Woburn, MA or Concord, MA to get to our classes, or any other questions, please email class@onetaiko.org.

2012 Summer Naname Focus

This summer, Odaiko New England classes are going to focus on the naname or slant style of drumming. Both classes will explore Matsuri, a song based on traditional Bon Daiko or Bon Odori rhythms. The Techniques class will explore an additional song which also uses the naname style. There will be two levels of classes, but students are encouraged to take both.

The summer session will start June 5th and end on August 7th.

Fundamentals of Naname

Date: Tuesday evenings
Time: 6:45pm – 8:30pm
Location: ACAS Center, 29 Montvale Ave., Woburn, MA (directions)
Cost: $200.00 for the summer semester (10 classes), $25.00/class drop-in rate. Prerequisite: Fundamentals of naname are open to everyone – No previous drumming or musical experience is necessary.
Registration: Complete and mail in the registration form.

Recommended for beginners and anyone who has not already had at least 3 months of naname.

Focusing on the basics of good naname form for good solid strokes, flowing movements and strong, clear kas, Fundamentals of Naname will learn the "classic" pattern of Matsuri as well as using Renshu to solidify naname technique.

Techniques of Naname

Date: Tuesday evenings
Time: 8:00pm – 10:00pm
Location: ACAS Center, 29 Montvale Ave., Woburn, MA (directions)
Cost: $200.00 for the summer semester (10 classes), $25.00/class drop-in rate. Prerequisite: Minimally 3 months of naname style taiko training or concurrently enrolling in the Fundamentals class.
Registration: Complete and mail in the registration form.

Techniques of Naname will further develop the style by concentrating on two songs which both use the naname style stand but have differences in the kata (form) used. By focusing on the differences between the two forms, students will gain a better understanding of the body mechanics required for good naname techniques. Because this class will be learning two songs in 10 classes, expect this class to be more intensive than the fundamentals class.

Cost for enrolling in both classes for the term will be $375 or a drop-in rate of $40. Beginners to the naname style who enroll in both classes should expect to be challenged.

Concord-Carlisle Class

Dates: Every Wednesday, January–June, September-December
(No class during July & August)
Time: 3:00-5:00pm
Location: Concord-Carlisle High School, Concord, MA

Organizer: The High School and Adult Taiko Class at Concord-Carlisle High School are a part of the Concord-Carlisle Adult & Community Education program.

Concord Carlisle Adult and Community Education 2012 classes will continue in the fall.
